Research shows that sports injuries can be reduced by up to 50% by implementing structured warm-up routines focused on injury prevention. Get Set – Train Smarter was created to help prevent sports injuries by providing the most evidence-based and effective warm-up routines for different sports through a free mobile app.
All exercises are presented through videos, supported by short descriptions on how to perform them correctly. Exercises are presented with variations to make them more difficult and challenging as you progress. The Get Set exercises are designed to be carried out with a minimum of equipment, to make them safe and easy to implement wherever you are. A dedicated program is available for each Olympic sport and for each body part, but you can also create your own custom workouts and share with your friends.
I’m proud that we were able to deliver the project on budget in an agile process during the pandemic in just 5 months, and that everyone involved from both the IOC and OSTRC gave us great feedback on both quality of work, team chemistry and collaboration.

Get Set – Train Smarter is the result of a collaboration between the IOC, the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, NoA Ignite, and several international sports federations. We ran a series of creative workshops and, in testing of early prototypes, we made sure to talk to everyone: young athletes, coaches, injury prevention scientists and other stakeholders. The first version of the app was released in time for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing.
Since then, the app has been updated with even more sports, and the content team has made it a citizen of the world by teaching it 9 languages. In 2020, we created a brand-new version of the app with an updated visual design and new features to let users create their own custom workouts and share with friends. Using Figma, we ran a prototype-oriented design process to get feedback from users and the client despite the hurdles imposed by the pandemic. All workshops, meetings and conversations happened online. The app was built with React Native and was released in March 2021.
The new version of the Get Set – Train Smarter app was released in March 2021. Users can now group their favourite exercises for quick access, download workouts for offline use, create their own custom workouts and share them with other users.
We are proud that the Get Set team gave us top scores in their evaluation of the project, both on product quality, collaboration and communication.
The Get Set app will be pre-installed on Samsung S21 smartphones which will be received by all athletes competing in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. But remember, you don’t have to be an Olympian to use the app, it is free for all to use!
